When you think of a stock car in general, a round three spoked wheel tends to come to mind. Most often they’re anywhere from 13 to 15 inches in diameter. The wheel itself can be wrapped in Alcantara, Perforated Leather, or even Polyurethane. Some have grips at the 10 and 2, others don’t.
But why do we need an oval specific steering wheel for Sim Racing, more specifically iRacing. It’s a personal preference, but for me it’s the fact that stock car oval wheels have a deep dish. Why is that important? It brings the wheel closer to the drivers chest, and allows him/her to have their elbows bent and not extended. This is important because in stock car racing, generally you’re making only left turns and you want to have consistent corners every lap. Personally, the position and placement of the wheel allows me to keep my arms at a consistent angle while still maintaining comfort. The diameter of the wheel can make a difference for each track type. I generally use my 13 inch diameter stock car wheel Fanatec Wheels when I’m on short tracks ( One mile or less). I’ll go to the 15 inch diameter MPI wheel on the superspeedways and mile and a half’s.
Now, I used my Fanatec Wheels for a long time in all the iRacing platforms. However, once I switched over to the NASCAR style wheel, it made a big improvement on lap time consistency and overall enjoyment in that type of racing.
In conclusion, the oval wheel is a great option that can bring out the realism in stock car racing. Options are boundless in regards to diameter, external wrapping and dish depth. Find one that fits your style and give it a go.

A wheel hub sits at the center of your steering setup. It determines how many wheel rims you can use, how flexible your rig becomes, and how future-proof your investment is.
For Fanatec, that matters enormously.
Because the more useful the hub becomes, the more valuable the entire Fanatec ecosystem becomes.
But hubs often determine whether an ecosystem feels frustrating… or brilliant.
This new Fanatec Wheel Hub feels like one of those products that may not trend as hard on day one—but months from now people may realize it was one of Fanatec’s smartest moves.
It supports customization. It supports loyalty. It supports future upgrades. And it supports racers who want one setup that can do everything.
That’s why I believe this release could be a genuine game changer for Fanatec.
Final Verdict
The new Fanatec Wheel Hub may not be the flashiest product launch of the year.
But it could be one of the most important.
Because when you improve the center of the system… everything connected to it gets stronger.
