Gloves have been used in racing since the early 20th Century. They have many purposes such as safety, comfort and grip. In Sim Racing, gloves can definitely make a difference. Whether you want a firmer grip on the steering wheel or you’re looking to protect the covering on your wheel from the natural oils in our skin. Gloves are a great option.
When I first started sim racing on a Logitech G920, I had a pair of Mechanix Fast Fit gloves. Being new to sim racing, I thought this was my best option for enhanced grip of the steering wheel. After I moved up to the Clubsport V2.5 Base with the Fanatec Oval Wheel wrapped in Alcantara, I knew it was time for racing gloves. Luckily for sim racers, options for gloves are plentiful. After trying the Alpinestars and Sparco variety, I went with the Abruzzi Long Gloves with internal stitching and had them customized. The gripper pads on the fingers and palms allow for better control and grip of the wheel. They’re also very lightweight and they breath well, so your hands don’t sweat. I’ve noticed after moving up to the Direct Drive wheel bases, it’s even more important to have a quality/durable glove. With that said, it’s time to hit the track !
